Obamacare: Blessing or Curse?

It is Obama versus the House and the people these days. According to FoxNews.com many people are calling him out for his lies concerning the true cost of Obamacare. The article dealt primarily on showing the hardships that people, from around the country, are going to be facing and are already facing, in some situations. This article succeeds in its attempt to put Obama in a bad light. It tells of people being laid off due to cost increases, being fined for refusing Obamacare, losing doctors due to cost increases, and many more things that reflect negatively on the President. The main purpose of the article is to call him out for lying to the public of the effects of Obamacare. My husband and I have been dealing with the effects in some light when concerning the company he works for. Thankfully, so far these changes do seem too drastic, but a small business owner in our community says that they will be unable to remain open if the ACA goes into effect. Apparently, the cost and fines are more than the small business can sustain. I have remained out of the issue for most of its debate because I have not read it, and most people only know what they are told by their preferred media coverage, but if these things are true and American businesses will have to shut down, then I say that it is a shame that a President would allow something to pass that would squish the American dream. People come here for freedom, life, and the ‘pursuit of happiness.’ This country was built on the American dream. It is the only country in the world that someone can come from the lowest of lows and in the end become a billionaire.  A poor person can get an education and turn their life around. People are paid decent wages so they can afford a life for their families. This country is supposed to raise of the people, not tear them down.

So, I ask you this, what do you think of the article?

I would also like to know what you think of the ACA situation. Has there been any changes surrounding you that would make you for it or against it? Are your premiums higher or lower? Have you been laid off because of it? How will it effect you?

  2. Your post is very interesting brings up great points about the debacle over Obamacare. The article seems more of an opinion based article, so it seems very one sided. I would love to see arguments from both sides support and opposition. Many people don't realize is if you have any type of private insurance or Medicaid or Medicare you dont not have to get Obamacare. A lot of the facts about Obamacare the media isn't telling and that from every news source. The bigger picture of giving millions of Americans an opportunity to have healthcare benefits which i think is being overlooked.Yes parts of the Obamacare are somewhat flawed and can be improved but the overall all picture is the purpose of providing benefits for those who cant afford them.
I think everyone should check out some of the facts about Obamacare in the links below

  3. I agree with Janell on this one. The continued trend of businesses reducing worker's hours to resist having to doll out benefits has been going on for at least 2 decades now, and there is no empirical way to prove that the Affordable Care Act has anything to do with this. Business owners would rather keep more money than have to give their employees more benefits, and so we've seen a huge drop of employer-based health insurance over the past decade (long before "Obamacare" was a twinkle in anyone's eye) which is honestly one of the sparks for drafting this legislation. The idea that Americans should be able to rely less on employer-based healthcare and, if it is more cost-effective, purchase their own insurance in an increasingly competitive market place is one of the driving motivators for this law.

And for anybody who thinks the debt and deficit is a huge issue in the US, this law should be your best friend. One of the largest growing and most destructive aspects of our growing debt was the exponentially increasing cost of healthcare. Now, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, the cost of healthcare is rising at its slowest rate in over 30 years. That's a huge deal. Premiums are decreasing in California (one of the only states who has actually gone along with the bill in good-faith rather than opposing it in ideological grounds), and they're receiving many of the benefits of it.

When all is said and done, this law has not even taken effect yet. No business owner can ultimately say, "This is going to put me out of business." There are countless exemptions and loopholes to help low-income individuals and businesses if the mandate would be too oppressive. More importantly, it drives to the foundation of what kind of country you envision. Currently, we have a healthcare system where if any one of the 50 million uninsured Americans has a medical emergency, they're rushed the emergency room, are unable to pay up-front for the bill, and the cost is ultimately passed onto the American government (taxpayers). If we adopt a system of personal responsibility, then the long-term costs are going to be dramatically lowered and we will have a more equal and fair system of dispersing medical costs.

That's why so many supporters of "Obamacare" continue to say, "This is a conservative bill." It was originally proposed by the Republicans in the 90's, and was signed into law by a Republican in MA (where it worked to great effect and didn't put small businesses out of business).

  4. As a Conservative, I love what you said about the American Dream, how someone can come here and turn their lives around. Like you, I haven't read it either, but I know it's intent is to use tax money to create a socialized healthcare system, otherwise known as socialized healthcare, something I'm not a fan of. You posted this on the 28th of September. Today, on the 3rd of October, we're in the third day of the government shutdown. So when you asked if there have been any changes that make me for or against it... There's that. :-). Also, I'd like to see the government shutdown result in something like a shift in our government's spending. So, we'll see what happens.
