The Huffington post reported that the Department of Justice
is permitting the states of Washington and Colorado the right to administer and
sale marijuana to adults. The DOJ added that they still reserve the right to
prosecute the states, in the Controlled Substances Act, for wrongful actions
such as distributing weed to minors.
The Attorney General let the state governors know that the federal
government would be taking a “trust but verify approach.” In other words, the
states are allowed to produce marijuana for domestic and medical use, but the
federal government will be watching them at all times. Me, personally, I feel
like this is a smart move by the federal government. States should have the
right to choose whether they wish to distribute marijuana. There are so many
different kinds of drugs out there now that are, by far, more damaging than
marijuana. Plus, weed has medical benefits for those suffering with certain
illnesses. Wouldn’t it be
interesting if Marijuana were legalized in all of America? Granted, there would
have to be precautions and punishments for distributing the drug to minors, but
wouldn’t allowing the growth and consumption create a certain amount of taxable
revenue?
